Battle Scars and Peace Agreements

My badges are fading,

Badges of honor,

The least of all that I could show for the battle;

My scars.

Slowly erasing them, through mornings and nights, diligently rubbing cocoa butter, emu oil, shea butter, breaking down the scar tissue, breaking down the scars, and slowly erasing my badges of honor.

If I wanted to show them off, why did I also try to hide them?

If they're gone, will people know what I've been through?

Does it matter if they do?

Battle, we talked about battle,

Battle wounds, battle scars, battle metals,

Those who go get recognition.

Wounded in battle;

Additional funding sequestered solely for those who became disabled from war through peace agreements.

While those who already had a disability, silently struggled.

No longer able to walk through a conflict zone for their medication, no longer able to leave their home due to rubble and inaccessible streets.

Those long forgotten in the urgency of the crisis, barely remembered before, and, after, denigrated.

Their battle lowered in worth and recognition.
